If they did that, then the government would get soo'ed.

I suppose there might be early cancellation clauses in the contracts, but I would imagine it will cost the government money to cancel the contracts.

I think you'll find that the owners of the property being used would be be
held responsible for the cancelling of any contracts they signed.

No doubt the money will just go to some other landlord.

The hotels chosen to be closed to migrants will all be in swing seats , so rest assured Wigan's hotels will continue to be used .

My thoughts exactly, but thanks to Maureen O'Bern, there has been a lot of national publicity, regarding Standish and the two hotels being used there, she has been on GB News this afternoon saying that she does not know if the Standish hotels will be on the list of hotels, which will stop being used, but Wigan is not a marginal seat is it, however the government might want to get rid of those hotels, as them being bad news for the government publicity wise.

So do we take it that the so called protesting by Wigan Council and the MP of the Wigan Constiuency was only a token gester in the knowledge that nothing would be done by the Government about the mumber of known hotels being used in the Wigan area.

Are we in the Wigan area to become swing seat to get anything done about anything?

No, it is the Independent Councillor for Ince, Maureen O'Bern who organised the protests, and it has attracted media attention.

When the migrants are evicted from hotels , local councils will become responsible for housing them .
The burden will then shift to the council tax payer .

The Councillor for Ince may have organised the actual protests that involve any action, but the Council and the MP only made token ojections to make the local electorate think that they were opposed to the hotels being used while at the same time knowing full well that they would still continue to be used despite the protest.

And if the cost of housing the illegals was moved from the Hotels to the Councils, the cost would still be borne by those members of the public who pay Income and Council Tax.

Good Evening everyone we have been asked to share the following information with you .
Statement from Standish Councillors
We have tonight been informed by our MP Lisa Nandy that one of our contingency hotels is to be closed. Your 3 Standish Councillors Debbie Parkinson, Terry Mugan and Ray Whittingham are pleased at the Government’s decision to stop using one of our hotels to house asylum seekers. We have been working hard with Wigan Council and its officers using the appropriate and most effective channels to lobby the Government. We thank them all for their support which we know will continue.
Thank you also to our MP Lisa Nandy who has also been working on our behalf behind the scenes at Westminster to lobby the Government relentlessly. Our letters, emails and meetings objecting to the use of Kilhey Court to The Home Office, Suella Braverman MP, Robert Jenrick MP, Serco and Britannia and Macdonald Hotels and others have been acknowledged and we hope that the Government will stick to its word after previous promises were not kept. We will continue to push for this and to ensure that the second hotel is stood down and returned to our community as soon as possible.
As soon as we are able to confirm which hotel will be the first to close we will update our residents.
We will continue our monitoring meetings with all stakeholders which includes residents until both hotels are no longer used to house asylum seekers.
We would like to thank Standish residents for welcoming the asylum seekers, donating clothing, toiletries in huge quantities but it is time for the situation to end now. We will continue to work for all Standish Residents

So our local MP has done somthing for her constituents.

Her effort is to be commended even if it is only one of the two hotels in the Standish area.

But what is she and other Councillors of the other Wards doing about the other hotels in the Wigan Constiuency?

Most people believe the Britannia contract is up anyway , so it's likely to be the one for closure .

If true, perhaps the owners have realised that they can get more money by selling it for another purpose!

Would make a lovely private housing complex or even a private hospital for the many who can afford it!

Maybe Kilhey will never re open, if they were struggling prior to them offering it to Serco they will most likely suffer after its closed to asylum seekers.
